C-TEC Engineer Guide

XFP / ZFP: practical field notes for testing, disablements, logic and restoration. Menu wording can vary by firmware and site configuration.

Before changing a live system: agree the test/disablement with the responsible person, identify any ARC/fire-routing connection and plant interfaces, decide what must remain operational, record every temporary change, and restore/verify everything before leaving.

XFP / ZFP

C-TEC has distinct CAST and legacy protocol variants. Identify the exact XFP/ZFP version before following device or programming instructions.

One-man / walk test

  1. Use the panel walk-test/test function for the selected zone(s).
  2. On supported CAST-PRO XFP systems, Walk Test also gives fast device response; a separate Commissioning function may be available where cause/effect remains active.
  3. Confirm whether sounders and outputs are intended to operate during the chosen test mode.
  4. Exit the test and confirm the TEST indication has cleared.

Disable / enable

  1. Use Disablement Functions at the authorised access level.
  2. ZFP can disable zones, individual devices, sounders, Input Groups and Output Groups.
  3. Use the active-disablement summary to review and clear individual disablements.
  4. If a disablement is driven by a keyswitch or programmed input, return that control to normal before clearing it at the panel.

Cause & effect / groups

  1. ZFP uses Input Groups, Output Groups and Action Sequences for structured logic.
  2. Use ZTOOLS for configuration and keep the approved site file/revision.
  3. Group naming should describe the actual plant/area function, not just β€œGroup 1”.

Engineer notes

  1. CAST and CAST-PRO devices can have different feature capabilities; verify the panel firmware/device compatibility.
  2. Legacy XFP/ZFP Apollo/Hochiki panels are not CAST systems even if the enclosure looks similar.
