Protec Engineer Guide

6500 / 6600: practical field notes for testing, disablements, logic and restoration. Menu wording can vary by firmware and site configuration.

Before changing a live system: agree the test/disablement with the responsible person, identify any ARC/fire-routing connection and plant interfaces, decide what must remain operational, record every temporary change, and restore/verify everything before leaving.

The 6500/6600 touchscreen family provides explicit user menus for tests, device/zone disablements and output-group control.

One-man / walk test

  1. Log in at the authorised user level β†’ Test Menu.
  2. Choose Zone Test for a defined area or Complete System Test only when the test plan calls for it.
  3. Use Test Options to understand Alarm Outputs During Test and Auto Reset behaviour.
  4. Operate devices, verify expected alarms/outputs, then cancel the zone/system test.

Disable / enable

  1. Disable / Enable β†’ choose Zone, Device, Output Group or Output scope as required.
  2. A device list is reached through panel/loop selection; touch the address to toggle its disablement state.
  3. Output Group disablement is a dedicated menu item; some groups may be unavailable because they are controlled by logic/keyswitch.
  4. Use Current Disablements to confirm everything temporary has been normalised.

Cause & effect / groups

  1. Protec systems can use powerful output-group and panel-logic programming.
  2. Understand which output groups are designated alarm, control, fire-protection or other functions before isolation.
  3. Do not use β€œClear All Disablements” casually on a live configured site; logic/key-switch driven states can require specific restoration.

Engineer notes

  1. 6500 loop capacity is up to 200 addresses per loop, subject to engineering limits.
  2. The user manual warns that Complete System Test suppresses the remote fire-link transmission; manage ARC arrangements separately.
  3. Always check Test Options before assuming sounders will or will not operate.
