Wireless / Hybrid Fire Systems

Field guidance for hybrid wired/wireless systems, translators, radio-device testing, disablements and cause/effect boundaries.

Before changing a live system: agree the test/disablement with the responsible person, identify any ARC/fire-routing connection and plant interfaces, decide what must remain operational, record every temporary change, and restore/verify everything before leaving.
WIRELESS / HYBRID

Hyfire Taurus, Argus/translator systems and other radio fire devices

Wireless fire devices add an RF network on top of the fire-panel protocol. Troubleshooting must therefore separate panel-loop problems from translator/expander/radio-path problems.

Commission / test

  1. Confirm the panel protocol and translator type before adding radio devices.
  2. Carry out and retain the required radio survey/headroom information.
  3. Use the vendor configuration tool to check translator, expander and child-device health.
  4. Run panel walk test only after confirming how radio alarm/test events are presented to the panel.

Disable / enable

  1. Prefer disabling the specific radio child device or panel point where the system supports it.
  2. If disabling the translator, understand that multiple radio devices can disappear together.
  3. Check battery/device supervision and RF fault queues after re-enabling.

Cause & effect

  1. Remember that the panel usually owns the building cause/effect while the radio system transports detector/output events.
  2. Verify whether wireless outputs are driven directly through the translator or through panel logic.
  3. Test loss-of-radio/translator fault behaviour as well as fire alarm operation.

Engineer notes

  1. Hyfire Taurus can interface with Vega-protocol panels through the appropriate translator and can use compatibility modes where extension commands are unavailable.
  2. Wireless address allocation can consume consecutive panel-loop addresses depending translator architecture.
  3. RF signal quality can change after building alterations, shelving, plant or partitions are installed.
