One-Man Testing / Walk Test

How to prepare, run and safely restore one-man or walk-test modes, with manufacturer-specific behaviour notes.

Before changing a live system: agree the test/disablement with the responsible person, identify any ARC/fire-routing connection and plant interfaces, decide what must remain operational, record every temporary change, and restore/verify everything before leaving.

Prepare

  • Notify site and monitoring centre/ARC where applicable.
  • Review cause & effect before suppressing outputs.
  • Identify lifts, doors, smoke control, gas shut-off, suppression and plant interfaces.
  • Choose zone test, walk test or complete-system test deliberately.

Test

  • Use the panel's dedicated test mode where available.
  • Confirm whether sounders pulse, operate continuously or remain silent.
  • Confirm whether relays/fire routing are automatically inhibited.
  • Record every device tested and any device not proven.

Restore

  • Cancel every test zone/system test.
  • Re-enable any outputs, routing or groups isolated for the test.
  • Reset and verify normal status.
  • Carry out a final functional proof if temporary logic was altered.

Typical one-man / walk-test behaviour

Advanced MxPro

One-man walk test gives an automatic alarm period (normally around 10 seconds) before sounders silence; Advanced states relays do not operate by default. The alarm period can be configured longer on supported systems.

Kentec Syncro AS

Use Test Zones. The panel automatically resets after a short test-fire period; sounder response can be selected for the test zone. Use the restore-zones-in-test function afterwards.

C-TEC XFP / ZFP

Use the panel walk-test/test facilities appropriate to the exact model. CAST-PRO documentation notes that Walk Test also places compatible devices into fast response; C-TEC also provides a commissioning mode on supported XFP CAST-PRO systems.

Notifier Pearl / ID3000

Use the Test menu and select zone walk test. Pearl tracks devices as NOT TESTED/TESTED. Cancel the zone test explicitly when complete.

Protec 6500 / 6600

Use Test Menu β†’ Zone Test, or Complete System Test where appropriate. Test Options determine alarm outputs during test and auto-reset behaviour.

Fike TwinflexProΒ²

System Test provides a simple one-man test: an operated device is indicated and assigned sounders run briefly before the panel resets the device. Check delays because a long delay can outlast the test-alarm period.

Eaton CF3000 / DF6000

Legacy engineer menus include One Man Walk Test so the engineer can test repeatedly without returning to reset the panel after every device.

GFE Juno Net

Caretaker Test Mode is the panel's one-man walk-through facility. Treat it as a temporary test state and restore normal operation when complete.

Nittan Evolution 1

Zones can be set to Test or Test + Sound. Test events auto-reset; with sound selected, alarm sounders operate for approximately 10 seconds.
